The visual magic of a theatrical production is the element that will most directly move and perhaps most easily touch a wider part of the audience. The costume, the mask, will forever remain part of the image of the character coming and going on stage, engraving him or her with a special colour in the memory of the spectator.
Yannis Metzikov, in his own unique way, has given this colour to the characters in the works of Aeschylus, Euripides and Sophocles, as well as Shakespeare, Chekhov and Terzakis, among others. His creations for the theatre were the subject of an exhibition that inaugurated the National Gallery's new 2010 exhibition season.
A painter and sculptor, Medzikov is also a set and costume designer. He has worked with almost all Greek filmmakers, including Kakoyannis, Volanakis, Vouchinas, Koundouros, Evaggelatos, Michaelides, Chianos, Houvardas, Zuzou Nikoloudis, etc.
With his immense talent he gave "life" to the Flexible Mannequins in order to present with them his costume and scenic creations.
